The following is shared from the Columbia Gorge Health Council:
Due to the government shutdown and continued changes to SNAP funding, many of our community members are or will be in need of assistance to purchase food. Food Pantries are a good option but for many that will not be enough, and the pantries might run out of food due to higher numbers of people in need.
For Hood River and Wasco counties, Bridges to Health is accepting referrals to provide assistance in the form of food gift cards. Referrals for those experiencing food insecurity can be made using this form: B2H Food Assistance Referral Form
During times of uncertainty our Bridges to Health program has a history of mobilizing to help the most affected in our communities. We will be using donations to purchase food gift cards for clients/community members in need. This allows the recipient to shop for groceries and achieves two important goals: to maintain the dignity and autonomy of the recipient by giving them the resources to shop; and stimulating the local economy directly. This approach is in support of and in collaboration with the Columbia Gorge Food Bank and the efforts of the Columbia Gorge Food Security Coalition.
If you are aware of community members or partners who would like to support our work, they can visit our website to learn more about how they can help: https://www.cghealthcouncil.org/foodassistance
