Persistence and Collaboration Lead to Job Success for VR Client in Bend

For Jamin, a Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) client, the road to employment was a long one. After two years of unsuccessful job searches, his perseverance and multiple connections with WorkSource Oregon ultimately paid off. An internal referral connected Jamin with Misa Olsen from the VR Workforce Team, marking a pivotal moment in his journey.

Through several conversations with Misa, Jamin was encouraged to participate in an interview lab, organized by WorkSource partners Joe Milazzo (WorkSource Career Development), Marnie Fordham (Central Oregon Intergovernmental Council – COIC), and Misa herself. This unique program allowed Jamin to practice his interview skills, receive constructive feedback, and refine his approach. The experience boosted his confidence and helped him develop key skills, giving him a competitive edge in the local job market.

Soon after, the Bend WorkSource hosted a hiring event for a major local employer, featuring full-time, on-site positions. While Jamin applied and participated, he did not initially secure a role. However, Misa and Katy Schultz, his VR Employment Counselor, continued to advocate on his behalf. Their persistence led to a positive outcome: the employer agreed to create a part-time position for Jamin. He was invited to interview, received an offer, and will begin his new role during the next training cohort on November 11, 2024.

Both Misa and Katy are hopeful that this success will open doors for other VR clients within the same organization, reinforcing the power of collaboration and perseverance in achieving employment goals.
