Manufacturing Pros Test Skills in “Ready or Not” Simulation
The Columbia Gorge SBDC, in collaboration with the Columbia Gorge STEM Hub, OMEP, ECW, and others, recently hosted an innovative Career and Technical Education (CTE) event that brought the world of business strategy to life. On June 25, local entrepreneurs and manufacturing professionals gathered at Columbia Gorge Community College for OMEP’s “Ready or Not!” Business Simulation Game, an immersive training experience designed to challenge and educate participants in real-world business scenarios.
This four-hour, live simulation transformed attendees into key players in a competitive business landscape. Participants were grouped into teams, each taking on unique leadership roles within fictional companies. Throughout the day, these teams faced a series of challenges that mirrored real-world business complexities. They were tasked with making strategic investment decisions, managing key performance indicators, and responding to unexpected market changes and crises – all while competing against other teams in the room.
The “Ready or Not!” simulation showcased the power of experiential learning in business education. Unlike traditional lecture-based seminars, this hands-on approach allowed participants to apply theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios in a dynamic, engaging environment. The competitive element added an extra layer of excitement and motivation, pushing teams to think critically and act decisively under pressure.
Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive. Many praised the event for its ability to condense years of business experience into a single, intensive session. The collaborative nature of the simulation also fostered networking opportunities, allowing professionals from various sectors to connect and share insights.
By bringing cutting-edge training opportunities like “Ready or Not!” to our community, the Columbia Gorge SBDC continues its commitment to fostering entrepreneurship and supporting local businesses. This event exemplifies how collaboration between organizations like SBDC, STEM Hub, and OMEP can create valuable learning experiences that prepare the next generation of business leaders for tomorrow’s challenges.
The success of this event underscores the importance of innovative approaches to business education and the vital role that the SBDC plays in our community. By bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, events like these ensure that our local business ecosystem remains vibrant, adaptable, and forward-thinking.
